Troubleshoot Touchbar on MacBook Pro Not Working
There are various reasons why your MacBook Pro's Touch Bar could not be functioning. The following are some measures you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
- Restart your MacBook Pro: Occasionally, software-related problems can be fixed with a straightforward restart. To restart the MacBook Pro, navigate to the Apple menu, select Restart, or press and hold the power button until the device turns off. Then, press it again to turn it back on.
- Verify the Touch Bar's settings: Make sure the Touch Bar is turned on in the settings on your MacBook Pro. Make sure that the "Touch Bar shows" option is set to "App Controls" or "Expanded Control Strip" according to your preferences by going to System Preferences > Keyboard.
- Update macOS and apps: Verify that the most recent version of macOS and the most recent version of your programs are installed on your MacBook Pro. Compatibility problems can occasionally be caused by outdated software. To find and install any available updates, navigate to the Apple menu > About This Mac > Software Update.
- Reset the System Management Controller (SMC): Your MacBook Pro's SMC regulates a number of hardware features, including the Touch Bar. Hardware-related problems may be resolved by resetting the SMC. Depending on the model of your MacBook Pro, the procedure differs. Apple's support page has detailed guidelines that you can follow.
- Reset the Touch Bar: If the issue persists, you can try resetting the Touch Bar itself. Here’s how:
a. Close all open applications.
b. From the Finder menu, click “Go” and select “Go to Folder.”
c. In the window that appears, type the following path and press Enter: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.touchbar.agent.plistd. Move the file that appears in the search results to the Trash or another location on your computer.
e. Restart your MacBook Pro.
- Try in Safe Mode: If you want to see if the problem is with third-party software or drivers, you can try starting your MacBook Pro in Safe Mode. Hold down the Shift key after restarting your MacBook Pro until the Apple logo displays. If the Touch Bar functions well in Safe Mode, there may be a software issue involving a driver or third-party program.
- Contact Support: It is advised to get in touch with Apple Support or visit the IRepair Service Center if none of the aforementioned solutions work to fix the problem. They can offer more direction and support while troubleshooting and fixing your MacBook Pro's Touch Bar.
